This is the most active exchange in Australia by a long shot. BTCMarkets is a full blown exchange, meaning you will trade your coins with other traders. Their site is very easy to use and they now offer Ethereum (ETH/BTC and ETH/AUD)

They charge you a percentage based on your 30 day volume so the more you trade, the cheaper it gets. All fees include GST. You pay a fee to buy and sell. The more you trade, the cheaper it gets. They don't charge you for coin deposits or withdrawals. International bank transfers are charged at $30. Australians can deposit using POLiPay ($3.30 charge) for up to $10'000 which makes it easy to deposit cash swiftly. Be mindful that the very first POLiPay transaction from any new account will have to clear before your funds become accessible if you transfer more than $500.

Not as much traffic as BTCMarkets but very efficient. They are very quick with withdrawal requests. You can trade in multiple currencies. AUD NZD and USD. This is of particular interest to foreign costumers trying to benefit from variations across markets.

They have a similar fee structure to BTCMarkets based on trading volume. The more you trade, the cheaper it gets. They offer POLiPay for up to $4000. EFTs over $100 are free and smaller deposits attract a modest 99cents fee, they charge you to withdraw your coins (0.0002 BTC). Deposits are free. International or non AUD cash withdrawals are $20.

The only exchange in Australia where you can easily buy pretty much any coin with cash or exchange them for a different coin. Nobody else offers a similar service. They have two different platforms. One is an exchange where you can sell Bitcoin, Litecoin and Doge. The other is a direct market place where you buy coins at a fixed price. Fees are different between these two platforms so make sure you pick the one that suits you best.

Unfortunately their prices don't adjust automatically so you have to hit refresh over and over again. They have reduced the deposit limits to $AU5000 per day and also no longer process PoliPayments between 6pm Friday and midnight Sunday.

They charge fees for selling coins and also for buying. No charges to send/receive coins. AUD deposits and withdrawals are free.

BrightonPeak has a refreshing, modern look. They are a full exchange offering low fees but no POLiPay which makes it quite a bit slower than other exchanges to deposit cash. However, they are planning on implementing this option in the latest version that's currently in development.

They charge a structured transaction fee for buying and selling coins. Fees vary depending on how may trades you do. Everything else is free. They don't accept international wire transfers.

This is not an exchange as such. Meaning you don't buy or sell to other traders. You deal directly with Cointree. The advantage is that you can buy/sell large amount of coins at a certain price. However, they do not really show you the final price of your transaction until you commit to it and that can lead to some unexpected costs. Cointree are very responsive to emails and they swiftly process orders as well as withdraw requests. They offer a best price guarantee but we've never put that to the test. They also allow you to pay any bill using your coin balance via their website.

They charge a fee for buying Bitcoins. Anything else is free. They also have a quick exchange service to swap your Bitcoins with many Alt Coins. They do have smaller daily limits compared to other exchanges with $500 for PoliPay but they certainly have an interesting range of services.

You buy and sell directly from and to Coinjar. They don't run an exchange with an order book. You can sell larger quantities of coins at an agreed price without causing major price movements. They are now based overseas but offer all the convenience of a local Australian service, including POLiPay for deposits. They have a few novelty services such as debit cards and hedge accounts for your coins to protect them against fluctuations in your currency. You can hedge EUR/USD/AUD with them.

Their interface can be a bit confusing for first time users until you find out how to go about selling or buying your coins but you get used to it fairly quickly.

Depositing cash can take quite some time due to their internal review processes. Your money may arrive quickly but then sit there for a while until you do get access to it. Apparently things improve the more you deal with them.

They charge a fee for buying and selling coins. Moving cash into a hedged account is also attracting a 1% fee. They offer an EFTPOS card as a convenient way to spend your coins.

This site is a straight forward online shop to buy your coins. They offer nothing other than selling you coins. You have to bring your own wallet address so that they can send you the coins after you deposit the cash. You will have to deposit your cash over the counter at either Westpac or ANZ. There are no online payment options. They claim to process your order within the hour once they receive your deposit. You identify yourself via verification code to your mobile but other than that there are no ID checks required but according to their T&Cs they may request more identification from you after the order has been placed.

The guys are very responsive to support requests and operate only during their Australian business hours Mon - Fri 6am to 7PM. No trading on weekends.

Their quote already includes a transaction fee.

If you want to sell your coins you can use SellABitcoin which is owned by the same guys for that very purpose. We couldn't find any fees for selling coins. Once you agree to sell them your coins you have 10 minutes to send them to their wallet. They will pay daily into your nominated bank account.

Bittrade offers you a straight forward way to sell and buy coins. You're dealing with Bittrade directly so there's no order book. Like most exchanges, you can use POLi Payment.

They charge a transaction fee for buying coins. They are open from 7am to midnight 7 days a week.

Coinloft offers an easy way to buy bitcoins. That's all there is. You can't sell your coins there and you will need your own wallet if you want to purchase bitcoins as they don't offer a wallet service either.

They charge a fee for buying coins. The fee is included in the price they quote on their website. Minimum amount is $AU200, the maximum amount is $5000. You will have to go through an ID check when you first purchase through them. They accept cash deposits at various banks and Flexepin vouchers.

You need a mobile phone number as communication and processing is done via SMS.

HardBlock is based in Adelaide, South Australia. They have been operating as a Bitcoin buying and selling service since March 2014.

They don't charge any extra commissions or fees. Their prices are therefore exactly what you'll get. No additional math required to figure out the real costs involved.

HardBlock offer a straight forward sell option without the need to open an account first. Just enter your bank details and the number coins you wish to sell. They claim to deposit your cash within 1-4 working days. If you wish to buy, you'll have to open an account and go through a proper ID process.

ACX introduced fees starting on the 2/2/18. They are registered in Hong Kong with their office being located in Melbourne and consider themselves an Australian exchange.

They claim to be one of the most liquid exchanges with the cheapest prices in Australia as they tap into the global liquidity pool through their "liquidity engine".

If you want to withdraw money, you'll be charged a $25 fee. There's a $25K daily withdraw limit.

If you wish to trade, you'll have to go through a proper ID process.

Coinbase is a large exchange based in the US. They accept AUD so it seems useful to have them listed here. They charge a very high commission as Australian users can only deposit using their credit card and aren't allowed to sell their Bitcoins with them.

While most Australian exchanges are based in Melbourne, this one sits in Brisbane. It's a new exchange, still in the early stages. They have volume based commissions and offer PoliPay up to $1000 or bank transfer up to $10K. They don't charge fees for AUD withdrawals. We had early access to check it out and their interface is very straight forward.

Bitfinex is listed here as a comparison. It's price is in $US and can give you an idea of what the US market is doing. The US is the dominant market place for Bitcoins and you may find it beneficial to be aware of what's going on over there.
